Elizabeth Harwood, Assistant Organist, St. Mary Magdalene Newark on Trent is accomplished church musician, organist and accompanist.

Prior to moving to the UK from Canada in 2023, Elizabeth served as Organist and Choir Director at several churches in Nova Scotia including St. George’s the Round Church (Anglican), Halifax, First United, Truro and St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. She also served as University and Chapel organist at Acadia University. Prior to moving to Nova Scotia she was Organist and Choir Director at Christ's Church Cathedral in Hamilton Ontario.

Elizabeth is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, having received the Healey Willan award for performance excellence. She was also the recipient of the Royal Conservatory (Toronto) gold medal for the ARCT. She studied with Gerald Wheeler in Ottawa and Bernard Lagacé in Montreal. Elizabeth gained her understanding of the English Choral tradition as Assistant Organist at St. Matthew’s Church Ottawa working with Gerald Wheeler and Brian Law.

In demand as a recitalist and organ accompanist, Elizabeth has served as organ accompanist with many choirs in Nova Scotia and Ontario including; Annapolis Voices, the Halifax Camerata Singers, and the Bach Elgar Choir (Hamilton). She has accompanied Canadian choirs on UK tours to Canterbury & Ely (1992) and Gloucester & Exeter (2011). She has played continuo and as an organ soloist with Symphony Hamilton, The New Hamilton Philharmonic, the Boris Brott Summer Festival Orchestra and continuo with Symphony Nova Scotia and the Ensemble Regale-University of King’s College Chapel Choir. She has given recitals in several Canadian Provinces, and broadcast on the CBC Radio Program – Organists in Recital. She has also been adjudicator for the organ class at the Halifax Kiwanis, Truro and Annapolis Music Festivals.
